Arabia Felix Public Art Campaign
AMNAH AL-NASIRI & ARIF ALNOMAY
Arif AlNomay (born 1970 in Ibb, Yemen) is an artist, specialising in documentary photography, whose work explores the cultural and political narratives of Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula. Arabia Felix Public Art Campaign by artists Amnah Al-Nasiri and Arif Al Nomay facilitates COVID-19 public health messaging and mutual aid by artists in cities across Yemen.
Amnah Al-Nassiri is an artist, author, critic and Professor of the Philosophy of Aesthetics at the College of Literature, Sana’a University. She was born in Rada’a City, and moved to Egypt at a young age before returning to Yemen to complete her secondary school education. After she graduated, she traveled to Moscow to study art for ten years as she could not find the opportunity to study it in Sana’a. In Moscow, she received her PhD in Philosophy of Aesthetics.
Yemen is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with more than 24 million people – some 80 per cent of the population – in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 12 million children. Arabia Felix is a Public Art Campaign led by artists, Arif AlNomay and Amnah Al-Nasiri. It aims to provide financing, materials, and curatorial support to Yemeni artists who can deliver urgent public health messaging and community support in cities across Yemen.
